Although I am not a qualified aromatherapist I do however offer aroma massages, in which I use various 'recipes' to achieve certain goals.
Aromatherapy is a holistic art where essential oils are used to help relaxation, increase energy, reduce the effects of stress and restore lost balance to mind, body and soul.
The beginning of aromatherapy is an uncertain thing, but appears to be as old as mans relationship with plants. There are detailed recipes using aromatic compounds in the old testament, and sealed urns filled with aromatic resins have been found in the tombs of Pharaohs. There are records of extensive therapeutic use of essential oils in ancient China, India and the Middle East. Honey and Myrrh where used to treat the wounds of Roman Soldiers.
Essential oils are said to be most beneficial when applied to the body’s skin (the largest organ) and should be left on for at least 2-3 hours, and least effective when ingested as the digesting process can change the oils.
